1) the wave of passerines — nuthatches and vireos and warblers — that passed through the woods out back before the torrential rain
2) the torrential rain
3) a ten-minute play-fit in the office today by two large dogs
4) a great lunch with an old friend
5) the lovely, eye-contacty waitress at lunch
6) unexpectedly meeting, at lunch, the father of a friend from Alabama (who would not let me forget my hat)
7) my daughter’s last day at her old job, meaning her first day at her new one is imminent
8) the industrious spider in the web under my eaves
9) the cat that remembers the sound of a doorbell eight years hence
10) my new front bike tire
11) my good, strong legs
12) a certain place on Ballyhac Cove in Owls Head, Maine
